Does anyone remember "Other 98 Day"? As a high school senior, I got to be a DJ for about a half hour, representing the "other 98%" of reputable students (I guess, the ones that didn't get in trouble.) I can't remember the DJ I got to work with, but I do remember being able to choose the records played..."No Time" by the Guess Who, and "Dedicated to the One I Love" by the Mamas and Papas (of course, for my girlfriend, Peggy, at the time.)
It was a fantastic experience sitting in the studio with the window to the street. Thanks to WKLO for the memories.

Check out the Other 98 Day letter from future WKLO DJ Rip Rinehart on the Features Page. Of course, he didn't get a chance to get on the air that day like you...but it eventually happened!

I, too, participated in "Other 98" Day in 1969 and got to serve as the station program director. The Saturday before "Other 98" Day was an orientation at the showcase studios on Walnut Street, and it also happened to be the debut of the Montgomery Hogg All-Electric Rock n Roll Radio Show. I hung around the station that morning trying to figure out which person was Hogg. All I saw was some guy walking around with a slight limp who I thought was the weekend janitor. So at 2:00 that afternoon, I waited outside the studio to see Montgomery Hogg. To my surprise, the guy with the limp walked in and sat behind the microphone and when he started speaking on the air, I was shocked. He was a great jock! The following Saturday on "Other 98" Day, I got to share lunch with Carl Truman Wigglesworth, and Allen Bryan at the old Lum's Restaurant on 4th Street. It was great hearing them talk about some of their more humorous experiences in radio. My experience led to a radio career right after high school graduation in 1970 that has taken me to several stations such as WLRS, WXVW, WINN, WKJK and now 84WHAS where I work part time as a radio producer. And it all started with "Other 98" Day.
