Ken Douglas is correct. Last we heard, Ken was in California in the haberdashery business.
We'd love to hear from him.

:)Have a question! what station had the hand shaking contest? was it WKLO or WAKY..I remember going with older brother to watch,,he was one of the last to be shaking hands when the Louisville Fire Dept shut it down because to many people were in the building...
It was wild, two people shook hands until they couldn't move any more..it lasted for hours and the winning prize wasn't that much,,something like 50.00 and some new records...

Re: Handshaking contest. Near the end of a Friday night "Coke Hi Fi Hop" at some school in Indiana, a couple of young fellows came up to me and said they'd been shaking hands since the beginning of the dance. I asked why, and they explained they didn't dance and it was "something to do". Next afternoon while I was on the air, I mentioned it and named them the "worlds hand shaking record holders". In a few minutes I saw two or three couples of guys in front of the show case window shaking hands. So, that prompted me to announce we would have a hand shaking contest the following Saturday. As I recall we had a couple of transister radios as grand prize and a couple of albums for runners up. We started about 7am. There were people all up and down Walnut Street. And, cars were driving by gawking and honking. It wasn't long before Louisville's finest were there telling us we must stop because we were creating a traffic problem. So, we moved inside....up one side and down the other of the center hallway. About 6pm or so, there were still three or four couples shaking away, and I had another Hi Fi Hop to go to, and we really needed the contest to end. So, what were we to do? I'm not totally sure....and if I were I wouldn't admit it....but, I kinda think someone in the news department hinted to the fire department that we might be creating a fire hazard with so many people in the hallway of the station. We had a visit from the fire department and they suggested we take it outside...but that would have created another traffic hazard....so, we proclaimed every one still shaking hands, winners. gave them all a radio......and I made it to my Hi-Fi Hop on time. Now, that was when radio was fun. God Bless. TM
