Why did you prefer listening to WKLO over WAKY? What did the people at 1080 do better than the folks at 790? Was WKLO a better station than WAKY?

I grew up listening to WKLO in the '60s in the Mitch Michael era. This will always remain the best for me - what I grew up with.

I actually started listening to WKLO first, since our local station was at 1400 and I was brave enough to move the dial on my grandma's radio, so WKLO was the first non E'town station I listened to other than WHAS. I haved channeled most of my energies towards WAKY, which is where I listened most growing up, but this site and the airchecks reminds me WKLO was just as much a part of growing up. Yes, I have enough love for both!

Gary Major, Rock n Roll Chuck Brady and Bo Brady were my favorite 1080 jocks!

Well, it didn't take me long to figure out a particular thread was on the old messageboard, but some of you may remember me having batted around an idea for WKLOOnline. That has been on the backburner a good while, but sometime in the new year, WKLOOnline will be sharing space with WAKYOnline, sharing not only music, but interspersing vintage WKLO airchecks right along with WAKY airchecks (some jocks having done both), along with station specific jingles/spots. Initially we will continue to run just WAKYOnline liners until we can get some KLO jocks to help us out with new liners of their own. No airdate as of yet. I know like high school grudges, there may be some people offended by having to share space with the 'competitor', but I think after the successes at the past reunions, we can get past that! Coming in '08!

As stated on the other threads, this merger is on hold for now. Do take the time to vote on the name, as the time will be right a little bit later!

I preferred WKLO over WAKY due to the fact that WKLO was signing my paycheck!!!
Hi All. I was doing a Google for my name and found the tribute site and some my old photos ... yikes.....!!!!!
When I was in high school (St. X class of 69), I favored WAKY. And a few years later after landing my first on air gig in Bowling Green, while at Western Ky. Univ. and once I had gotten the DJ bug, I wanted to come back home to work at my favorite station.
I was lucky enough to get Johnny Randolph to listen to my aircheck. He told me that I wasn't ready for the big time yet. So that same week, I met with Bill Hennes over at WKLO, and he hired me right then and there on the spot.
And the rest they say, is history. Less then two years later, I'm in Boston!

Wow! Into the night with J.J. Wright. Good to hear that you're still in the biz and doing well. I favored WAKY back in the day, but my girlfriend preferred WKLO, so we generally jumped back & forth between you and Mason Lee Dixon whenever we stayed up into the wee hours of the morning. I'm afraid you missed a couple of really good reunions. It would have been nice to meet you.
John Quincy sure didn't waste any time updating a bio on you. If you have any airchecks from your time at WKLO, please get them to John Quincy so that he can add them to the site as well.
