I got into a debate recently, where I stated that WDJX was a decendent of WKLO. This person said that I was full of it, I know I'm right, anyone over 35 and been in Louisville knows that WDJX is a decendent of WKLO. ;D

I'm not as sharp about WKLO as I am about WAKY, but it seems to me that WKLO was followed by WKJJ (the new KJ-100) and then WDJX.

Exactly. I can remember listening to Chris Randolph on 1080 when I believe it was known as WRES (?) for a short while. I also remember when WDJX was known as KJ "Magic" 100 I think. It has been many years since I listened to that station as music in general to me went down the dumper around 1990 or so.

Speaking of Chris Randolph, I thought he was related to Johnny Randolph for awhile, until Johnny said one night on WHAS radio, that he wasn't. Where is Chris these days, is still in Louisville radio? I was never a fan of DJX, but Chris was the best jock they had.

Last I heard Chris Randolph was working at 98.9 FM but that was a few years ago. They change names too much for me to know their call letters now.

DOHH!!! I can be so slow at times. I've seen Chris Randolph's name on these sites, but never realized just who he was until now. Christopher Randolph was, and may still be, an excellent jock. Great voice, great delivery, could execute intros with style and just the right energy. I met him at an outdoor event on what is now known (or was known) as the great lawn (something like that) on the riverfront.
Chris would have fit in beautifully with any of the great jocks from the hey-day of either WAKY or WKLO. Of course, had he gone to WAKY, he may have had to change his last name. Johnny Randolph makes lite of all the "Johnnys" that came to WAKY (Johnny Randolph, Johnny Apollo, Johnny Dark, John Locke, John Walker...). Chris' last name not only would have been in conflict with Randolph's, his first name would have clashed with that of Chris "Christopher" Lundy as well.

Chris Randolph would have fit in there nicely with Gary Major,Bo Brady and those guys in the mid to late 70's. Also didn't Jill Lawrance work on WKLO near the end of it's run? I thought she did, but I didn't see her name on the jock page. Am I mistaken?

Call me sexist, but for some reason female jocks just have never done anything for me (nothing meant by that). Maybe on a jazz station or NPR, but they just lack the fire or the delivery. There was a female jock at an oldies station in Virginia Beach that came the closest to having the drive. Of course this is ONLY my opinion. But hey, wasn't Eileen Douglas a looker?? I know, I'm being sexist again .

Jill Lawrence was with KJ-100 and continued to thrive after the station became WDJX. At the time, she was married to Duke Meyer, who worked at QMF using only his first name. Sadly, the marriage failed and Jill's whereabouts are unknown to me.
Duke only does radio on a part time basis these days and currently does a show called, 'Relics with Duke Meyer' on Louisville's WFPK (91.9 FM) at 2 PM on Saturdays. The show features old album cuts (relics) such as Bloodrock's 'D.O.A.' which never gets played on Clear Channel's classic rock stations. I check it out from time to time via streaming audio. And yes. You will hear some of the usual stuff on his show. He does requests and it happens.

ON my way home from Louisville this afternoon I heard Jill Lawrence on WQMF! She was doing news...or was it traffic? Not sure as I was coming home via Dixie and I was in the right lane where someone was stopping to turn at every opening-and those in front of me braked at the last minute and me at the last second! Anyway, Travis, that's where she is now. Or else someone else is using that name. Nice voice. And me?? I finally got in the left lane!

The Jill Lawrence of KJ & DJX had a nice voice as well. She was one of the few female jocks that sounded very good without resorting to the typical sugary-syrupy delivery that is so common among women jocks. Could be the same Jill. Use caution when driving and listening to the radio. We radio types (and this includes you) don't listen to the car radio the way normal people do. We listen with an analytical ear, which is as distracting as driving while talking on a cell phone, and accidents will happen.

And I feel guilty about being overanalytical , too. I will critique on-air talent if I feel they are not genuine or sound corny. In radio studies they teach you to over project...because if you talk normal and leave it at that-then play it back, it sounds pretty dull. Well, I've heard some jocks that go way overboard and sound scary and ridiculous at the same time. I think anyone who listens to 103.5 with any regularity will know EXACTLY who I am talking about. I'll mention no names in case he reads this site. But with as many announcers as there are out there, there are a precious few who are a joy to listen to...and all who have ever been behind the mike at WAKY are part of those few. And to Johnny Randolph we owe a debt of gratitude for this!

okay...let me set a few records straight. I was the last PD of WKLO which became WKJJ AM ..which became WCII ..which became WDJX AM...which became WKJK1080. I was also the last PD of WCII after being gone from the property for about 2 1/2 years. Jill was the sales secretary who had been thru the Bill Love school of broadcasting (honest) i put her on the air for weekends and fill in. Also introduced her to Duke whom she married and later divorced. I too hear her doing traffic for the various clear channel stations. For those hard core radio fans in this city know, we move around a lot...and the business by nature is very incestous.
May Rusty Rest in Peace!!!
